  • Set Up Downloads

This feature is available only with Max Grid Download Add-on.

Before adding your first download, let’s get familiar with how download categories and tags work.

    Download Categories

Download categories and tags work in much the same way as normal categories and tags you have when writing posts in WordPress. They can be created, edited, and selected at any time. This can be done when you first create a download or come back and edit it or the category/tag specifically.

More information at: Managing Categories and Tags.

    Adding a simple download

Adding a Simple download is similar to writing a post in WordPress.

    • 1 Go to Max Grid > Add Download. You then have a familiar interface and should immediately feel at home.
    • 2 Enter a download Title and Description.
    • 3 Go to the Download File Panel, and upload or select File (digital) to add.

  • Download File Panel

    Download File Panel - Settings
    • 1 Upload / Select File – Manually enter a valid URL, or click “Upload File” button to upload (or choose) a downloadable file.
    • 2 Button title – Custom button title Example: “Download eBook”.
    • 3 Offset Count – Enter a numerical value to offset the downloads count.

  • Grid Settings - Meta Box

The Max Grid provides a convenient method to customize different characteristics of posts right inside the post editing screen in dashboard. On each post edit screen there is a meta box called Grid Settings which you can use to tweak things on posts "post, product or download". In this section we are going to describe those options in detail.

    • 1 Grid Post Thumbnail – Use this option to define what type of thumbnail you want to use on posts or custom post types. Choose between: Featured Image, Vimeo Video, Youtube Video or MP4 Video.
    • Featured Image – Choose this option if you want to use the "Featured Image" metabox. This is equal to disabling the Grid Featured option.
The "Featured Image" metabox will be visible on the Edit Post screens. If it isn't, make sure "Featured Image" is enabled in the screen options on the top right.
    • Vimeo Video – Use this option to set a vimeo video as featured image, this video will replace the default wp featured image, and depends on how you have configured the featured element in the grid eemplate, the video featured will appear, either as thumbnail image or as embed video.
Check out this link that explains more about the Embed options of the Featured Element.

By selecting the "Vimeo Video" option, a new field will appear just below the Grid Post Thumbnail drop-down list, where you must enter the vimeo video URL.
    • Youtube Video – Use this option to set a youtube video as featured image (same as vimeo video).

    • MP4 Video – Use this option to set a MP4 video as featured image.
MP4 can be used the same as vimeo or youtube videos, with an additionel option to choose your own video thumbnail (JPG/GIF/PNG).

In the case where you use a vimeo or youtube video as featured, the post thumbnail will automatically generate from the video URL.
    • 2 Upload / Select Audio File – Use this option to upload/select audio file from the media library, to complete this setup you must add an audio player to your grid from the Grid Builder page, this allows you to play this audio file in your grid.
Check out this link that explains more about Audio Player Element.
    • 3 List view mode Excerpt – Enter a custom excerpt that will be displayed only on the list view mode.

  • Categories and Tags

Download categories are the primary way to group downloads with similar features.

    How to add/edit categories

Categories are managed from the Max Grid > Categories screen.
Similar to categories on your posts in WordPress, you can add, delete, and edit download categories.

    • 1 Add a Name.
    • 2 Add a Slug (optional); this is the URL-friendly version of the name.
    • 3 Enter a Description (optional); some themes display this.
    Term Colors

The Max Grid Term Color feature lets you set a three custom color per Post Category and use these colors in your grid templates to spice up your theme. Colors are always easily adjustable through your Category Edit screen.

You can use a different color for each category. These colors will then be used to color your Category names, your Post titles, background, text, icons, etc. in your Grid.

    • 4 Term Color #1 – Primary color used for backgrounds.
    • 5 Term Color #2 – Color can used for text, lines and icons (over base).
    • 6 Extra Term Color – An additional term color which can be used on link hover color.
    • 7 Color Variations – Click the button to automatically generate new term color variations.
You have the choice to pick between these colors on some of grid elements!

  • Download Tags

Download tags are another way to relate downloads to each other. Tags can be added similarly to adding download categories and work in exactly the same way as post tags. See the WordPress.org Codex for more information.
